Help
Short answers to common questions. Inside Echoes, the Help tab explains each part of the app.
Getting started
- Open Echoes and choose a question from the book, or tap 'Your own story' and ask your own.
- Tap 'Press to talk' and answer in your own words. Tap 'Just write' if you would rather type.
- Your first 3 stories are free.
Talking with Ellie
- Ellie is an AI voice, not a real person.
- Ellie needs the internet, and your yes to 'Send my words'. If you say no, you can still record, write, play and print.
- With that yes, you can also ask Ellie for help in the Help tab.
- The privacy notice explains exactly what is sent when you talk with her.
Keep a backup
- Your recordings stay on your iPhone or iPad. Echoes does not keep a copy.
- In Settings, tap 'Backup now' from time to time. The copy goes to the Files app.
- To bring a backup back, go to Settings and tap 'Restore from backup'.
Printing, PDF and the audiobook
- 'Print what I have' is in Settings. Printing at home and saving a PDF cost nothing. Only stories marked Finished are printed, except a spoken introduction.
- 'Listen as an audiobook' is on the book page. It joins your finished stories into one audiobook in your own voice, one chapter for each story.
- Ordering a bound book is not open yet.
Plans and refunds
- Plans are not on sale yet. When they are, they are sold and renewed by Apple.
- To cancel, open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Deleting Echoes does not cancel a plan.
- Apple handles refunds for plans, through Apple's Report a Problem service.
Deleting your stories
- In Echoes, 'Delete everything' removes your stories, recordings, photos and videos, your details and your settings from your iPhone or iPad. You cannot undo it. A copy you saved with 'Backup now' stays in the Files app.
- Words already sent to Grok (xAI) or ElevenLabs, and details you sent to us, are not removed by deleting the app. To have them deleted, email us.
